Now what about the Ansett S-models.....
Are there any ex drivers or mechanics that could share any info on these S-models.There doesn't seem to be many photos of these S-models,I've been recording all the regos of the early Kenworths and there is a massive blank when it come to the Ansett S-models.I have IS-2689,IS-3203 & IS 3843 from 15 S-models.
Soon after the first 7 S-models arrived #76632-38 Ansett took delivery of two S921s #76639 & 40.After trialling them for a short period they ordered ten S-925s and converted the S-921s to bogie drive. Also they were all 8V71 powered.
Cheers JOTS.

OK Swishy regarding matching Chassis numbers with Regos...
IS-2689 was a single drive and was either #76639 or 40,I think it was #76640.
IS-3202 was one of the ten #101565 - 74.
And IS-3843 was one of the final three 103939 - 41.
Cheers JOTS.

Funny they didn't worry about bull bars, would have thought there would have been a bit more wildlife around in those days than there is now.

RE: didn't worry about bull bars

Way back when

on the East coast twaz very strict with length laws

Guess n here the overall length bumper to bumper B 47 feet...Allow for a 37 foot trailer n 10 feet from front of trailer to front bumper (KW 'S' Model truck 90" BBC =7'6" + 2'6" trailer swing clearance = 10')
so no room for a BullBar

Jist a WAG

That is a very good point Cam.Bull bars are non exsistant in USA and all the early Kenworths came with a standard bumper with the exception of off highway Kenworths.A few operaters had them fitted here, Trail Bay Haulage,Eastoes,Mcfies,MBCV come to mind amongst others.I think KATO was a main manufacturer of bullbars at the time (will some-one correct me on this...).
Interesting facts regarding length laws Swishy and that would obviously been a major factor. Also regarding your enquiry about IS-3843 the notable difference from this one to the ten is the air horn in the middle of the roof and the luber-finer mounted on the battery/tool box.I think this is Harry's S-model #103941.
Cheers James.
ps. MBCV is Manufactures' Bottle Company.
