heggie's transport

It probably is an original 6x4. They made them in the early part of the war specifically as prime movers and non-tactical highway cargo trucks. I have seen quite a few over the years. They all had the split type differentials instead of the normal GM truck construction of Banjo diffs. By about 1943 all the GMC's were soft top cabs.
Here is the same truck but with a very rare forward control and sleeper. The Army got a handful in 1939/40. I will put it in Dima's thread also.

Those dates are Sold dates not delivery dates.... So delivery would have been late in 71 and early 72
Next lot were SARs up around 402320... About 1977
Interesting on Heggies builds.
Guy rang me after a shop manual and states his 76 Heggies W925SAR was ordered with hendrickson spring rear suspension listed on the build sheet but still shows it as a 925.
Just wondering wouldn't that be a W924 not 5.
Did Kenworth at the time have the abilty to change mid build and change its specs but not the designation.
Curious minds.

Technically it could be 923 or 924... Depending on the weight spec of the Walking beams
And yes they could change any of the major components... Even after it was built and sitting on the lot for distribution.... They often did this with stock ordered trucks.... Build a few when things were quiet to a fairly popular spec.... Then some one would come along and look at it and ask for... Say a 9 speed instead of a 15 speed... So they'd swap it.... Easier to do that than build a whole nuther truck to almost the same spec
You might Laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same

If possible can you post some recent photos of the SAR and the build sheet and chassis number. All of Heggie's early W's. SAR's and LHD's were all fitted with the Torsion Bar Suspension.roKWiz wrote:

It did happen occasionally where a customer got one at the right price and had the spec
changed.......................
Mate of mine worked for Camerons he said that changing major components was
on quite often............

I must ask him for that info but he swears its was built for Heggies in 1976 (small 5 3/4in) dual headlight hood., listed as a 925 SAR but also states on the build sheet hendrickson springs.
