Okay, they say trucking is in your genes. No argument there. But how far back does your family trucking heritage go? Here's a family photo, don't know when it was taken, but judging by the clothes and the old REO, I would say the 1920's. Unfortunately none of the people in the photo are around to tell us when the photo was taken. So anyway, the fella with the big mo in the white dust coat standing in the door of the truck is my great-great grandfather. It was his REO and he was a general carrier and furniture removalist.

I believe there may have been a horse and cart before the REO arrived. Since then there has been truckies in every generation. This is from my mum's side, and my grandfather (mum's dad) was the last driver that side of the family. From dad's side, my grandfather and dad were tanker drivers at Shell, and of course I was a linehaul driver for a while. So I think it works out that my trucking heritage goes back 5 generations. Yes, it's in the blood.

Kenny, funny you mention about your grandfather driving in the war. Mine also drove trucks in the army, and he too never had a licence. After the war he tried to change his military licence over to a civilian licence, which was common practice back then. All he had to do was pass an eye test to get his civilian licence, but he was colour blind and failed. So he never got a civilian licence. But he drove every day until he took ill and passed away in 1992. ;D ;D ;D We didn't find this out until after he passed, but it gave us all a laugh.
