calga expressway ? wasnt the speed limit for cars 70mph back then? ...a 35mph limit on trucks would of been a hindrance...even a bedford could hadle 35mph ??

Wasn't too hard back then was it, 35mph city and 60mph highway. (make that 50mph for you NSW blokes)
Now we have 10kph increments from 40 to 110.
Safety, hey.

NSW at that time was 35mph (open road) and 15mph (built up area) for heavy vehiles.
I was doing 20mph one morning in Parramatta road and a motorcycle cop told me to "get moveing or get off", from then on I just travelled with the flow.

I have heard of taking a while to get told about speeding tickets. But having to wait since 1968!
The RBA has a calculator to work out how much things have changed in price. I put $40 in 1968 and in 2011 (max year can be chosen) and it says that the value would now be worth $433.92

Something wrong with your speeds BK.
I was driving NSW/Qld in the 60's and 70's and it was 50mph max for trucks in NSW.
Used to put the foot back down at Goondiwindi after watching in the mirrors for those bloody Minis, Toranas, Valiants etc.

I am told, but don't know if it is true , that 6 blokes started at Parramatta one morning and 6 more on Broadway and travelled 3 abreast inbound and outbound and the speed limit was then raised to 30/50 within a very short time.
There were I am told great delays.
