When I said the LN 700 had a chassis like an F series, they are, though certainly not the same as. The steering box is in a different place to start with, but they are much smaller in dimensions than the 8000 and 9000 chassis and the pressings remind me of an F series chassis.
Binder, there is a book on the Australian Louisvilles, it is a bit hard to come by though. It was printed for the Daimler Truck Dealer Council only. If you've got any mates at your local Freightliner/Mercedes/Fuso dealer, that is about the only place you may get one, though I thought the print run was very low, like around 100 books. The same bloke has or is writing a history on Cummins in Australia as well, though I haven't heard any more on that. In the book it says that the Broadmeadows Truck Plant opened in 1972 and immediately took over assembly of the F series from F100 through to F 800 as well as the D series and transit. It also says they engineered the Cummins 180 into the F 800 but they were too late for the market. It doesn't say when production of the larger F trucks actually ceased, it just says that when the new model F trucks were released in America it was too much trouble to engineer the larger ones to RHD so they went with the Louisville. It goes on to state that the Louisville was released on the 12 August 1975. There is a bloke in VIC who has an F800 factory fitted with a V8210 I think, used to be a car carrier, I thought it was later than 72 though I could be wrong, it was also one of the last I think, hence the odd motor.
Does anyone one know where the prototype LNT 9000 ended up? That would be interesting to find. In the book it states that it was used in Ford's own fleet and up as a yard truck at Broadmeadows plant.

cam you have touched on a subject close to my heart
im a ford man and also a cummins bloke and as an apprentice had a bit to do with the f8000,s which were a
oz only spec with the c180 and 5 speed spicer, the closest u.s ford was the f 950 d differences was f950d was full air low roof cab [63 model] and v6 200 cummins ford u.s made a f1000 but it was petrol engine
477 to 530 cube
I owned one of the last f750,s sold and it was fe390 4v
went like stink but was thirstier than its driver
the f 8000 came in to oz ckd and ford homebush nsw
rented a factory on the corner of Parramatta rd and rawson st auburn to reassemble them I would go down every few days and do a start up on the c180,s that had come of the reassembly line , a bloke in ullmarra bought one and George yager predicted he would put it arse up with 2 decks of cattle and that exactly what happened!!! when they went to repair it they found ford Australia had not imported any spares for the f8000,s
which breached a bunch of trade laws!!! ford supplied a cab and front clip off the line in auburn to keep the peace
and at the end of the f8000 run there was a complete truck minus tinware sitting in that factory , years later I came across that very truck with a wc white cab and reo front clip
as for the f800 with a 210 ? ive never heard of it but
it but don't doubt it was built but in that era it should have been 185???
as for the 477 it was a very dated engine by the time it got down here in the ln700,s but still very reliable
only problem I can remember was burnt ex valves on 1 cyclinder only and had something to do with the heat riser in the intake manifold once the riser was blanked off problem solved??
