Double cab TK Bedford rubbish trucks in NZ was created by Bonester
Hi all,
For the Bedford fans an interesting video has recently been uploaded to YouTube featuring the men and the dust carts used in Wellington, NZ in 1971.
They sound like 300 petrols and I think they would have had a hard time on the steep streets like the hairpin turn shown.
As I was only 3 at the time I don't remember the Bedfords but I think in the mid 70's they 'upgraded' to D series Fords.

They had flash rubbish trucks in Wellington! When I was a kid in Auckland our rubbish truck was an Austin Loadstar with a high sided wooden body - it would drive around the street and the guys would tossed the bins up to the bloke in the back, he'd empty the bin and drop it back down to the runner....your bin would be at the next house down. They were mostly rugby players, they sure kept fit! In the '70's I'd left school and out in the world working....and that same truck was still doing our street.
The bags are pretty weird, but as they said, in Wellington it's pretty steep and too much work to run up and down with the bins. Good looking at the cars we had on the road back then. The Bedfords would all be petrol, and in that size certainly 300's.
