HCVC (Sandown) show - change of date or venue
...any and all input on this dilemma would help with the emerging issue of the problem of a decent long term home for the HCVC Display Day outing ...on the time proven, and desired last weekend of November of every year ....
...is there a possibility of a benevolent transport company being able to donate the hardstanding needed to conduct a weekend such as this?....
...to me, the benefits start to stand out in regards to PR for any major transport related company interested in taking this issue on....
...we all get bound up in the ''public liability'' issues, but a lot of crap could be cut through ....if enough thought and pen ink is applied....
good point Defective!

....just a thought and to try to help things move along, the Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park at the end of Melbourne Rd (Hanmar St) in Williamstown has a very large public car park...the Williamstown train terminates at the park, it's not difficult to get to from the Southern and Eastern suburbs, and is easily accessible for people to come in from the Western side of Melbourne, Geelong, and the North-Western districts.....also there are the maritime displays in the park to add further interest to the days proceedings....all the while looking over Port Phillip Bay

...google it, throw this or any other ideas around, and let's all generally bang heads on a fairly secure location for these future upcoming HCVC display days.....cheers fellas

Industrial parking may be fraught with oh&s. Would the Driver depot in Clayon cope? With most of the fleet sold, there must be a lot of space left, and Driver brothers have always been strong supporters of the HCVC rally. There would be spectator-parking issues, and it isn't served well by public transport. My feeling is that it is too small. Everything might squeeze in, but not with space for good photography.
I like the Williamstown suggestion, if it is available. The site is huge, but mostly grass. The small amount of hard is the Tenix carpark. I see that the authority is Parks Victoria, not the local council. IIRC, it is PV which makes Albert Park available for an annual display: spread thinly along the lakeside roads; not on an area. Gellibrand isn't ornamental, it is a large expanse of grass, possibly over gravel. It was once the railway yard serving Victoria's main export grain port (and railway workshops until ~1890). Most track was intact until the late 1970s; then was removed. A couple of years ago, I hiked through with a railway group, trying to align the site today with the plans and photos which we were carrying. In turn, that leads to another investigation. Near Seaholme there is a reserve for a scout camp, adjacent to a municipal reserve. I have no idea about suitability for the trucks, or availability, but the overnight camp aspect would be ok, and it is an acceptable walk from Seaholme station.
