Save Coal Creek was created by
There will be a Save Coal Creek Historical Park meeting at 10am on Sunday (27th May) at Coal Creek Korumburra.

The South Gippsland Shire is talking about knocking down 30 of the 50 buildings because it costs too much for the upkeep

Bparo,

Didn't get a chance to get down there. Slept in ::)

I did however find out more information. Basically many of the buildings that will be demolished are almost falling down. Some have already been demolished such as the sawmill. Others I believe will be available for relocation. But the more significant ones that are in reasonable order will be kept. The park will be shutdown for 6 months and re-open next year but will be free entry. The tramway will be retained. And additional area made available for such events as market days and music concerts etc. So will be come more of a community park.

Also this decision by the council while very upsetting has taken many years for a decision to be made as to the future of the park. And even the voluntary group witihn the park is happy that finally a decision has been made. All this indecision has created a situation where very little money or advertising has been done for many years. Causing the run down aspect that the park has had.

So while not happy about the situation. It has been on the drawing board for many years. :'(

Maybe we should get Calvin to organise a club run down there when it reopens. After all he complains we don't do enough events out that side of town ;D

Great Idea.

Was going to organise such an event a year or so ago. But that was at the start of the unstable phase that the village was entering.

So when the village is reopened we should do such a run! :)

Part of the old problem was a location to park the vehicles as the main car park isn't very large. And if we could park them inside the village the access wasn't great for the larger trucks and unless it is summer a lot of the roads and possible parking locations wouldn't take the weight of the larger vehicles.

But part of the redevelopment is to establish a markert area. Which should provide better hard standing for the vehicles as well as better access.

So after it is redeveloped I think we should have a run. And Calvin is in a prime location to assist with organising! ;D There are also quite a few other members in that area also. So maybe a run to the village. Bit of lunch, ride on the train and maybe a look around the village (what's left) and depending on the time either goto the Tourist Railway at Korrumburra or maybe those members down that way may be able to organise something more special! Have to wait and see. At least 6 Months anyway :-/

Deadly,

The reason I didn't persue the Canberra trip. Was due to the other commitments of members during the time it was suggested it be run for. The idea was to do something special to get the Historic Commercial vehicles out in the public eye. What better way than if our own club combined with NSW, Canberra and maybe even QLD commercial vehicle owners to converge on Canberra for Australia Day. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

But as pointed out in my original idea it would need massive support and massive organising to make it worth while. Yet at the time that I suggested this idea of the special trip on this forum only had one respondent. Also with the rising cost of fuel this type of long trip is now out of reach for many. As well as the time it would take to drive some of the vehicles this distance. (many of us have holidays away from our trucks). ;D

For example even my Inter would take at least 2 days to get there. And go through at least 250 dollars of fuel. So allowing for some running around petrol but no wear and tare on the vehicle for the 6 days away. (4 days travel and 2 in canberra) Plus an allowance for food and cheap accomodation the cost would be over $1,000 and thats just for the inter! I would hate to see how much a prime mover would cost! But when suggested the cost would have been closer to $1,000 than now which would definately be a few hundred over. I just can't afford that much anymore! Especially when you factor in the cost of the wear and tare on the vehicle for a run of over 700K's one way. :-/

I will happly organise a run to Coal Creek when it opens again. But as Bparo suggested and proof of the trips to Albury and Mt. Gambier. Local knowledge of the destination turns an OK trip in to one to remember. Also we have quite a few members in the Coal Creek area to contribute to such a trip. :)

Anyway I don't remember nor having re-read my post that there was anything about me NOT organising it. I actually never said WHO would organise it. If you re-read the post I indicated that Calvin and other local members are in a prime location to ASSIST in organising a run.

Another thing Deadly that if in future if your posts (or anybody's else
