Guys. Don't get of the track of what I'm saying.
I enjoy attending all shows.
I think the organisers and volunteers do a fantastic job.
Some events have a more restrictive policy than others.
I abide by whatever they want. If for some reason I could not comply, I would not attend.
Also the NHMA went far overboard when it insisted that registered tractors be fenced off at events. That is ludicrous and totally unnecessary.
SAFETY is paramount. In a confined area, it is almost impossible for one marshaller to protect all areas of a manoeuvring vehicle.

Some extrememly relevant points there JB....
Whilst familiarity breeds contempt and all that.
Nobody want to see any incident take place anywhere.
I have attended many shows and i don't think i have witnessed anything i would call an 'almost' or a 'near miss'.
I have not seen behaviour that would cause me to be concerned and feel the need to contact an orgainiser.
I attended a very large country show recently, of around 200 trucks.
With this show people are allowed to come and go as they please, over a 2 day period.
Many camp onsite overnight.
There is a huge parade through town, of which around 100 trucks participate.
Many of the trucks travel from the grounds to the opposite end of town to muster up for the start of the parade.
Whilst there are marshalls about, movement is basically at your discretion.
I have NEVER had any cause what so ever to be alarmed by this vehicle movement.
The people that drive the vehicles are to be commended for their patience and care.
In the same token, the public are vigilant and respect the space required to move these vehicle about.
I think as with many things in life these days..
Education is the key, not 12 hours in a class room, some good old respect and care for others.
There just seems to be a never ending push for another rule to cover a rule, along with a penalty for good measure.
Take the Transport Industry for instance.....
You wonder why they can't get drivers....
Its a hobby, its supposed to bring a degree of relaxation..
Maybe just a little commonsense needs to be reintroduced into society?

I might just add....
At that particular show i attended recently..
Asides of car parking, Marshalls are not in your face all day.
The day practically runs itself once the show begins.
There is what i would best describe as a large 'family' attendance.
In many instances, its Dad's work truck on show..
The family is there to see Dad, whilst he is 'home' for the weekend.
Mums, Dads and Kids are EVERYWHERE.
There are parents with control of their children..
Hats, clothes, sunscreen, drinks, holding hands when required to stay safe..
Wandering around in a safe environment, where we look out for each other..
EVERYONE IS WELL BEHAVED!
Take care...

The circumstances of every show are different. But, if your insurance company says "these are the rules under which we will insure you" and you don't follow the rules then your insurance may be voided and you will be black-listed for the future. Fortunately, it seems we have all been lucky in the past - but it will only take one incident, and these can happen no matter how hard you try, to stuff it up for everybody.
Your vehicles may have 3rd party insurance to cover such incidents, but insurance companies are very good at "passing the buck" and your 3rd party insurer will be looking very closely at the show's PL cover and will try to put the blame on the organisers. If you invite trade stands to your show, your PL insurance will probably have a clause that the trader has his own PL as well. The whole thing is a nightmare these days.

Beaver,
As I have said all along every show is different. And that is all part of the risk assessment etc about the event.
Have to have insurance for all events now a days. And if they say these are the rules we have three choices. Find another insurance company. Agree with the rules as specified or accept higher premium. Or don't hold the event! Really we have no other choice especially when dealing with the public.
As for trade stands requiring PL insurance as well. I have heard of this starting to be a requirement. I recently started a small company that I had intended to take to events etc as the primary avenue of sales. But the cost of the Public and Product Liability insurance is to excessive so I'm restricted on what events I can go to. I have had quotes for the insurance and the price as quoted was about equal to turnover for last financial year! It is getting to the point that you can't start new businesses and can't do anything!
Always everyone's focus must be to keep every one safe. That includes exhibitors and marshal's etc. So that everyone can have fun!

I've seen a bit of a frightening sight at a show, a bloke took an old White 2000 in the grand parade, it wasn't his truck and he wasn't used to it. The truck has a 6V53 and Allison in it and being an old White, the throttle pedal is in the middle, but seeing as there is no clutch, this effectivly puts the throttle where the brake should be and vice versa. Old mate took the truck around in the parade then went to back it back into place he's hit the go pedal instead of the stop pedal then paniced then is on both pedals, the thing was roaring back under brakes, but the motor was beating the brakes and it ended up hitting a ute. I reckon those accelerator pedals in the middle are a very dangerous thing.
As Beaver says it only takes an incident

Yeh. Know all about that one! It was our ute jammed between two vehicles. Hit the ute on the back and pushed it into a camper. Just minutes before a few of us were standing at the back of the ute looking at photo's. And it all started when the said truck parked in someone else's park and was asked to move it.
