It is not a good choice for replacing PhotoBucket/Flcikr type services as according to their terms of use you are not allowed to link to their images from other sites, i.e. this one, or they will delete your images and prevent everyone else's images being hosted there from being accessed by hcvc.com.au, called Hotlinking.

They are a popularity based business model around images that they hope will go viral, high traffic with minimal image hosting to sell advertisers your details. Unless your images are creating lots of traffic for them, you risk losing them at their whim.

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. Thanks for posting the info regarding there terms, I started using it on advise from others hosting pics for forums and being happy so far with the service. (haven't had any problems yet)
After reading the above there policy is the exact reason I gave flicker the boot, after not uploading a pic for a few weeks I lost all my pics. I'm going to keep an eye on it, I can say they send a lot of emails
informing you about whats new on the site.

Ps. This post has been heavily edited by Gryphon to include the image processing settings used and moved the original Flickr image to the top so it can be compared on the same screen as the most recent test.

the differences between the two images are that the top image, HCVC hosted, has been processed down to a file size of 75kb while the Flickr image is almost double at 145kb meaning it takes up twice the amount of space on the disk storage uses more of your allowance when downloading on a mobile data plan. The quality, or resolution, is also reduced on the HCVC image as part of saving space/data. The processing that goes on when you upload your image directly into the Forum currently uses the Basic Quality/Fastest option as during testing the Best Quality/Slowest was causing problems for images that were of a larger dimensions.

The other things that is causing a difference is that the HCVC image is 800px wide and is being resized, in addition to the above processing, by the browser people are using to display the page and they tend to be ordinary quality/quick. The Flickr image is only 640px wide so on a desktop or large display the image isn't being resized by the browser so it is displayed as is.

I have made some temporary changes this morning to test making the Forum images a better quality, so if Mairjimmy would like to edit his post and upload the same image again, so we can see three images, with the new settings I can see if it is possible to improve the quality vs size balance.
