gday, so who knows about Austins? was created by DeanoM
Hi, I am new to the forum. I have a 1980 acco tipper with a Perkins and a 1956 Austin dropside tipper, with grain bin and original attachment. The acco has just come out of full reg and has been a workhorse for my new home development. It hasn't let me down. I am wondering if I should just keep the acco cos I don't want to give it away. Thanks.

G,day DeanoM, not sure where you are or what you do, but if the Acco is a reliable truck & you want to keep it then why not get yourself into a truck club in your area, see how you enjoy it & if you do enjoy it then get a roadworthy for the old girl & put her on club reg. Different states have differing requirements for club reg. Here in Vic we seem to have what seems to be the better system. Cheers Tim

Gday Tim. Yeah I'm in western Vic. It's is roadworthy with new spring pins, king pins etc. Are ppl collecting mainly older acco's or are these ones becoming rarer? I was thinking of going in the Adelaide bay to birdwood. I'm also doing a Holden fc authentic adelaide black and white cab and a more modified fe 57 Holden. So one day I'd like to transport the old holdens with the Austin. To post pics, do u need a photobucket account? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Nice tidy ACCO. There were a couple of Austin books on ebay last night that will help you out. The Austin 4 litre will fire up pretty easily.

It might seem like there are lots of Acco's about, particularly in rural areas, but give it just a few short years and they will be gone, same as happened with Bedford J series and bonnetted Inters/Dodges. The galvanised cabs have a reputation for lasting well, unlike the earlier ones.
The Austin is an early series loadstar, but was also sold with Morris and later on with BMC and Leyland badges.

Sorry fellas been busy. Yeah I started off with a 10 acre paddock three years ago and did all the driveway in, the roundabout, she foundation, and a crap load of earth moving, probably about 800 to 1000 square metres shifted with the acco onsite and many trips to town for hundreds more tonnes of finishing material. So it's done a great job and paid for itself many times over! I have some good guards, steps etc that I'm currently patching. I'm also doing the fe 57 Holden on rotisserie and have done the floor, New v8 tunnel, etc and I'll do the fc taxi as original as I can back to taxi specs. So I fired up the Austin but it needs new leads, points, exhaust gaskets etc. The first job is to flush and seal the brakes. I really like the colour and wanted something a bit rarer that Bedford etc cos there's plenty around here. But it's quite a big struck to transports. When I get time I will post up some pics of the paddock transforming to a fully finishe house etc. I've done most of the work myself apart from building the house with my 8000 hour kobelco excavator, which I partially restored recoing the idler wheels, New tracks, rollers, stripped the boom etc. I used to be an apprentice at inters in Adelaide in early mid 90's. It's been very satisfying doing the earth moving myself and being in the Bush I've helped many neighbours and bung the 4.5 ton excavator into the truck with my 6 tonn ramps. Bit hairy in the wet loading the excavator but that's all part of the fun.
