I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I have been thinking recently about two things I overheard at swapmeets (autojumbles, for Grandad, Eightpot and others who use that term) some years ago.
One was a young woman who complained "These are all car things." I told her she was at an old car swapmeet, not Trash and Treasure.
The second one I heard was a woman complaining to another "I don't know why they (men) like these things, they don't even look pretty"
My mother-in-law passed away just over a year ago and my wife and I got the job of removing her clothing (one load in a one-ton van) and her craft stuff. (two van loads) My wife took the clean, useable clothing to the Opportunity Shop at which she volunteers and distributed the craft items to members of the CWA (Country Womens Institute) and to other women who do various crafts. These people were very pleased to receive, in some cases, many dollars' worth of craft materials. My MIL's husband said "It is all rubbish really, isn't it," We tried to explain that it was many dollars' worth of usable craft supplies but he would not believe us.
When he and I were emptying one drawer, we found a paperbag full of strong-smelling herbs. I said this was for Pot Pourie (a French term for little scented bags) and he said no, it is for those smelly little bags.

Bryce Courteney, South African born Australian writer of 23 best selling books was asked by interviewer Peter Thompson, what he would like his legacy to be. He replied:- Peter, we have to be very careful when talking about legacies, I keep reminding myself that the tide comes in twice a day and wipes out all the footprints. You just have to do the best you can and whatever's left is left.
