If you live without making a difference, what difference does it make that you have lived?

The favourite saying of a character in the book "Crisis" by Felix Francis.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Everybody counts or nobody counts.

Said in the book "The Burning Room" by Michael Connelly to have been said by a former Mayor of Los Angeles.

I have to keep checking my birth certificate. There are those who don't believe the fantastic life I've had, or the jobs I've done and think I must be 200 years old, and the other mob think I was born yesterday.

If at first you don't succeed,

Skydiving may not be the activity for you.

I was having a cup of coffee the other day with two friends who are both retired ship's engineers and keen yachtsmen.
One was telling about his recent trip up the west coast of Tasmania (a notoriously rough trip) when his macerating toilet kept blocking. Eventually he had to strip it down (in rough seas) and found what he called a baby wipe wrapped around the works.
His mate said that he should put a sign above the toilet stating that "everything you put into this toilet must be chewed, either before or after putting it there. It's your choice"
