I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I just read on the NHVR topic, something about their stuffing people around. It made me think of an old saying that I may have put up here before-
"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

I've put my best foot forward,

Public service is my motto.
-- Al Capone
“Power that doesn't help the people, is not power but pandemic.”
― Abhijit Naskar, Boldly Comes Justice: Sentient Not Silent
“Public servants along with payment also get power, they should beat any private sector employee, any social work volunteer at providing good public service.”
― Amit Kalantri, Wealth of Words
“A public servant doesn't moves with compassion, comments or criticism, what moves him is a written complaint spoiling his service record.”
― Amit Kalantri, Wealth of Words
The official obeys whom he serves. Nominated independently of the people, elected because there is no choice between candidates so nominated, the official feels responsibility to his master alone, and his master is the political machine of his party. The people whom he serves in theory, he may safely disobey; having the support of his political organization, he is sure of his renomination and knows he will be carried through the election, because his opponent will offer nothing better to the long suffering voter”
― Robert Marion La Follette
The government of my country snubs honest simplicity but fondles artistic villainy, and I think I might have developed into a very capable pickpocket if I had remained in the public service a year or two.”
― Mark Twain

A few quotes this week:-
Today is the day you worried about yesterday, and all is well.
Dale Carnegie.
I alone cannot change the world but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.
Mother Teresa.
Always remember you are absolutely unique, just like everybody else.
Margaret Mead.

At a Christmas Breakup Barbeque I attended, a man told us that his Son and family had just moved house. The children begged their Parents for a cat for Christmas.
Father was said to have told them "You can have a cat for Christmas if you really want one but we usually have a turkey or a leg of lamb."
