Thanks Hayseed, I wasn't aware of the little house logo under our (often pseudonym) names . . . so perhaps now we should promote people to set it up and use it???

ALSO I have previously suggested highlighting other users names when referring to them (as I have done in the first paragraph above, and as picked up on by Morris, albeit in his own colour choice). I do this to draw that person's attention to the fact that I may be responding to something they have commented on. It is a very simple thing to do and as such is an acknowledgement of their input. ;)

See, I don't rant, but I do ramble on . . .

Oh, very quick with that Lang with your last comment (obviously while I was composing my last one), BUT you obviously didn't think about One Tree Hill!!?? Imaginative name use by Australians . . .

There are 51 places named One Tree Hill in Australia.

There are 7 places named One Tree Hill in South Africa.

There are 5 places named One Tree Hill in New Zealand.

There is one place named One Tree Hill in Pakistan.

There is one place named One Tree Hill in Papua New Guinea.

There is one place named One Tree Hill in Kenya.

If you tried to get every creek, road, hill, town, beach etc with a particular repeated name it would be an endless search. How many hundred Oakey Creeks and Sandy Creeks are there? I just tried to limit it to places with a Post Office or Post Code.

I don't think only the State identification is all that useful particularly when it comes to buy and sell or pick up of items, advice to go to a nearby supplier or knowledge of someone living nearby to help. There are thousands of kilometres from one side of a State to the other unlike USA being divided into 48 on the mainland. There may be a number of places in Australia with the same name but the chance of that coincidence upsetting a deal in miniscule.

Just my opinion

Lang

Tell that to the truckie who left Adelaide with a delivery for Maryborough. He wasn't aware of the Victorian town, until he couldn't find the street in Queensland. :P

That was the one that immediately sprang to my mind when I read your post Lang.

Sandy Creek? Nah, Homer Simpson would have a harder time finding his hometown . . .

Yeah, and 2 Kingstons in SA, FFS! They renamed one Kingston SE (South East).

I must have misunderstood the proposed use/placing of our location. I though we were talking about putting it on THIS forum. I propose adding it somewhere as prominent as the member's name/nomdeplume. It would save us having to ask people where they were located.

Regarding duplicated place names, I am told that in early colonisation of New Zealand by the British, one town in the North Island and one in the South Island were both named Palmerston. They both refused to change so the one in the North Island became Palmerston North.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

That is what hayseed was talking about Morris, with his little house logo.

Hover your cursor over the little house on the left under my avatar and you will see that the feature exists IF the details have been added to the person's profile details. :)

However, it doesn't always seem to work very well for me (?) so you may need to repeat the action several times.

Below are three that are in this blog . . . including "God's country" which we can assume is Australia, although the Irish often make that claim about their homeland.
