Ditto for me Re all above.
I'm going to make my own personal new year resolution here and now.

Not to believe ANYTHING I read (either on here or anywhere) without first trying to check the veracity of the "statements" before opening my big yap!
I honestly think that a lot of people (including some on this forum) have fallen victim (and I incude myself as well, yer honour), of taking the line of "The Gospel according to Saint Google!" as the be all and end all of information. If it's on the internet, MUST be truth!

After reading some posts on here and other forums, over even the past 6 months, and then taking them a bit further to check what some well intentioned contributors have advanced, have found same to be totally misrepresented at worst, unintentionally slanted in others at best.

I make NO aplogies for this attitude, but I'll give a brief example.
There was an email going around entitled, not on this forum but could have well been because of it's thrust, "The camels are coming"
Supposedlly attributed to a Mid Eastern ruler in an interview, regarding the eventual drying up of oil, we'll all be back riding camels.
I had it passed along to me, wasn't a bad read, made a lot of sense to me anyway.
I followed it back to the Veterans forum, turned out that it was a mixture of a conversation, an old poem, and padded out by the author!
The encompaning photo, showing a desert shiek in traditional robes. turned out NOT to be the accredited interviewee, but in actual fact, HIS son!
That was only one quick such post.

So, Don't be like me and many others and blindly believe that what you are reading to be actual fact, quite often it's somebodies barrow being pushed.
Cynical? You bet.
Aside from that personal rant, all the best to everyone on the forum for Xmas and New Year, don't knock yourselves around too much and hope to see everybody back here bright eyed and bushy tailed next year!
Cheers, Dave_64

My Xmas present to you.

www.rand.org/research/projects/truth-dec...ormation/search.html

This will help you check any fact or information. There are about 50 sites which enable you to do this. Many specialise in specific subjects.

For the false news stuff (nearly always with a political bias or some axe to grind) the quick go-to site is SNOPES. Factchecker is another popular site. They don't just say "this is false news" they actually give you the background information.

For instance there was a recent video of the American President talking about hurricane season. He quite clearly and plainly says "If you want you and your family to be safe in Hurricane season just get the Covid vaccination". The whole world went mad at this doddering old fool (of which there is little doubt).

He was robbed! Unfortunately the initial poster had cut out the first minute of the interview in which he said "Hurricane season is approaching and many people will be sheltering in large numbers in shelters. This close proximity is a very high risk of Covid infection. If you want to you and your family to be safe in hurricane season just get the Covid vaccine"

Snopes and Factchecker were right on to it but as you say it went off to a billion people before hand.

Does this mean every time you put up some information I need to fact check it? I don't think so as everyone does their best and even I have been known to have a fact wrong (in every post?). Just the political, social comment and roll-your-eyes stuff might be checked if you can be bothered but this is usually taken in good humour and seldom do we see people with their knickers in a knot.

It is a very civilised forum despite being populated by all us old yobbos.

This is true. I did hear yesterday that Santa's reindeer have been on a low protein diet on instructions from the UN and European Union because reindeer fart twice as much as cattle and the total coverage of the world in their Xmas Eve travels would result in the little children in Alaska and Siberia having to turn their aircons on to cope with the resulting overnight temperature increase.

Merry Xmas

Thaks for restoring some sound reasoning, Lang.
It was posted partly with tongue in cheek, probably with a bit of a stir in mind, but wasn't aimed at anyone in particular!
You being an old serviceman would be an adherant to the old adage, " No names, no pack drill!"
Cheers, Dave

Nothing to do with trucks but what would Xmas be without Frank Kelly's rendition of 12 Days of Xmas.

Thanks for that Lang. Just what we need , given the time of the year and where we find our selves in this crazy world at the moment.
A little bit of that goes a long way. I don't know where you dig these messages up from but good on you. Dave.

something I whipped up a few years ago (in 2016) when I owned Fords and Inters to stir up a friend who was a General Motors only man. Maybe i need to have another version now I drive a Chev powered Dodge and don't own any Fords or Inters

To the tune of Jingle Bells I titled it " A General Motors Christmas"

Dashing through the snow
On a one horse open sleigh
The car has broken down
It’s that mongrel Chevrolet
Of course we couldn’t take
That old Cadillac
There was no guarantee
It would get us there and back

Oh Jingle Bells Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way
Where o where can I buy
A Ford on Christmas day Hey
Jingle Bells Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way
I wonder if anyone
will trade my Chevrolet

Santa was to take
an old Bedford Truck
but to do the trip
would need lots of luck
If you stop and think
That these brands are golden
You’ve never missed Christmas Day
Coz of a broken down old Holden

Oh Jingle Bells Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way
Where o where can I buy
A Ford on Christmas day Hey
Jingle Bells Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way
I wonder if anyone
will trade my Chevrolet

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.
