That was / is quite the classy looking car, makes the Bean look very out dated

I have never seen a man wearing gloves on his wedding day

I am sure Bev would have preferred to have gone to a hair salon....

Actually she is quite excited about this trip. Handling the double clutching OK (She did drive a 1942 GMC 6x6 about 100km on winding country lanes in Normandy about 20 years ago when we ran out of drivers).

Having said that she is a happy admin officer passenger and will do less than 10% of the driving unless I take a bait or some other reason precludes me.

    Lang,
I see that Max wore his second-best suit for the photo but his face-fungus is impressive.

The Bean (and Mrs. Lang) look pretty good.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
    my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
    I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Car  shipped late January, Depart London 01 April

Spent today doing the valves. David Ragless the builder back in 1987 told me he had completed 30,000km. Certainly looked like it with bad pitting and receded valve seats. Lots of carbon to be scraped off pistons and top of block.

The 1924 Bean manual recommends a valve grind every 10,000 miles so with whatever David Read put on it  has done twice that. Luckily a mate had a valve seat grinding stone with the required 30 degree angle. I bought one of those reversing attachments for a drill which made final lapping in very quick and easy.

It has very good oil pressure so I am not going to drop the sump.

I just found this photo of Francis Birtles and Sir Robert Hadfield his sponsor beside the Sundowner.

Hadfield Steel and Engineering owned the Bean Car Company.
