Cobb & Co (Redmans Transport) used Bradford Vans for town deliveries.

Yes the little truck. Made by the same company that made the Jowett Javelin car, and Jowett Jupiter sports car. I think Trojan might have also been built by Jowett.

As a kid growing up in the fifties, a local mechanic had both a Bradford van and ute. Going by the sound of the (little 2 cylinder) engines, I figured he could not be much of a mechanic if both his vehicles were missing on a couple of plugs.

The Dennis fire engine looks like an F1 with a "New World" body from the 1950's. Remember Bugly restoring one in the NT? His had a roof. Called new world because the crew were no longer hanging on for dear life as they did on a "Braidwood" pattern body, instead being safely cossetted inside facing each other.

Ok, this is getting scarey now. What are the chances of finding a Bradford panel van? Well here it is in Burra Burra all the way from W.A.

It was the Jowett national rally last weekend based at Barmera. That sort of explains the sightings. Good show and really friendly entrants.

Many useful things fall off trucks

When my old man wanted to buy a car in 1950 there was a long waiting list on anything desirable ,especially a Holden .........under six months wait was a Bradford estate car ,an Armstrong Siddeley ute ,and a Peugeot 203 sedan ..........we got the Peugeot in bottle green..........it had a worm drive diff which was wrecked by the dealer putting the wrong oil in it ........that replaced ,it was a very reliable car ................the Bradfords were supposedly made in Australia ...probably CKD assembly.
