About 3 months ago, I did something similar to the Isuzu 6bg1 in the bus. Full overhaul except cam.
Head completely overhauled. (inc stems, springs and valves)
new liners, rings
new bearings. I was unsure about doing the mains in situ but it was surprisingly simple. Ended up using a 1.5 mm plastic stump spacer to slip them out and guide them in.
What size are the pistons? My liner drift my fit. Liners were the worrying part... but cooled each one in dry ice for 20 minutes and then tapped them in.
JC Engines in Croydon are excellent if you need the head done.
SMS diesel has good Japanese engine parts and reasonably price. Mine cost under $4500 inc injectors.

Good one jon_d.
Yes, wanted to wait until I was in Sydney to grab the kit. SMS / Bernie parts usually supply my parts. Being a Perkins design, there is a few choices.
Pistons are a whisker under 4 inches (100mm) fortunately I had a hardened steel disc (recessed edge) which I did adapt to make a screw type liner puller.
Sticking the liners back in could be a problem, so hopefully the hotter weather could help otherwise as you say the freezer trick.
I'm trying not to disturb the fuel injection pump and timing by not pulling the front gear cover.
The Perkins injectors are an easy rebuild option as parts were readily available but bought myself a injector tester adjuster tool.
Still thinking about swapping over heads from the other diesel supplied with the truck, but need to check it out for compatibility using the intake pre heater system rather than the 6 in head glows.
Something that might be done later, no hurry as I don't do much outside stone work over the hotter part of Summer.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Definitely need the dry ice; the freezer will not be enough. I found out the hard way.

Amazing to think the 3.0Ltr HA Perkins morfed into the Mazda 3.5SL, 4.0 TF, 4,6TM. They must have had plenty of metal in the block to gain 1.6 ltrs over that time.
I note so many sellers of the HA fitted diesel try to tell you its a SL when you can clearly tell the difference by the radiator hose arrangement being opposite and HA having glow plugs in the head.
You are all not giving me confidence regarding the use of dry ice btw.
