Thought this could interest some people.
In Berhar north of Calcutta last year we went past a cattle market. The decks were lined up to take the purchases away. Taken out of our 1924 Bean car there is a photo of an empty stock crate and a full one with 4 beasts loaded. Who needs a 500hp Kenworth when a 20hp tuk-tuk will do the job. They even carry in-flight rations.

Your better to die trying than live on your knees begging

The second photo shows the correct way to drop a cow or bull on the ground to work on it
No struggle, no fuss
The slight compression on the sternum and the beast just gently folds and kneels like shown
Generally a holter is placed on the head to hold them steady
Cattle just stand and wait while they are gently lowered
No kicking or bellowing, nothing at all

I reckon it works on most animals that walk on 4 legs
Compressing the sternum, even on humans has a sudden effect on us
One of those pressure point type of deals I think
The rope dowm the spine has to be in a straight line and while someone holds the halter the other person pulls the rope in a straight line with the spine and holds the pressure amd guides the cow slowly down keeping her straight up amd down and they end kneeling on the front legs and sort of laying on the rear legs
This does work, no B.S.

Cattle are not to be killed for food according to Hindu scriptures but they say not to kill the "productive cow". A bit like most Europeans, but not all, would not kill and eat a horse but worked them to death in the fields or pulling a cart.
Cattle are very useful in Hindu areas as providers of milk and pullers of ploughs and carts.
Like a lot of scripture nonsense in any religion there is a grain of truth and in this case the poor farmer feeds his family for a couple of weeks with poor old Bessie then wonders why there is no milk on the table and how he is going to plough for the next rice crop.

Paul, my comment was a bit TiC, or flippant. But seriously, I'd give it a crack on a docile Hereford, although I would have reservations trying the same on a Brahman scrubber.

No bull, 1971 in South Vietnam, saw a 550 Lambretta backed into a shallow drain. Had one ox on board and locals trying to get the second one on beside it. Skinny axle looked bent.
Not able to stay and watch, sorry, no photo.

You can try it on the wildest one as long as the rope runs down the spine it will gently lay them down, and while the rope is taunt, they will stay down.

Who would of thought a truck forum could talk about cattle and the like
If you can get the rope, it will lay down like this
