Does anyone know what happened to Mick Gardner's 12V Detroit powered (Seattle Star) Kenworth?
I was having a drink with an old mate and neither of us had seen it on the Hume in a long time.

Thanks for the info Swishy, that's great to hear it got to a recent truck show. 8-)
Great photos of it on that website.

My mate tells the story of going down the Hume one night in his 8V Detroit powered Road Commander thinking he was king of the road, he then hears this thundering great noise from behind to be overtaken (whilst going up a hill) at great speed by the Seattle Star.
He said it was like getting overtaken by a Boeing 747.

Yes Swishy, you are right. I've known Mick as a good friend for around 18 years and he has parked up the Seattle Star and is bulldozering in his GM powered Terex (what else but a GM for Mick!). He's making more money doing that than running up the Hume.
I'm actually going to see him next week.
I went with Mick to Sydney once in the Seattle Star to unload paper, and then from there we went to Port Kembla to load steel plate. We had about 28 tonne on heading for Melbourne. This thing was roaring up Mt. Ousley passing trucks that had left 5 minutes before us! It was awesome!
Once we got to Melbourne and unloaded, Mick asked if I would like to have a drive. I couldn't push him out of the seat fast enough! :D I think I'm one of a few lucky guys who have had the opportunity to drive the Seattle Star. What an experience and one I'll never forget!! :)
Cheers, Ray.

i was north bound off bowning hill near yass rolling well over a dollar in a T600 pulling a tipper loaded to the max, i could see this truck gradually aproaching on my right but it was crusing back beside my drive wheels for a bit , i was looking in the mirror and was thinking the headlights seemed to be close together,as istartd to wash of some of that extra speed :P ::)this truck edged up more and more, when it finally cruised up beside me i could see the beak of the eagle on the side of the hood. i thought to myself that somebody has copied the seattle star as i had seen it in magazines. when it got along a bit more it was then that i realised it was the origial seattle star. i was a bit stunned to see it pulling a loaded trailer. so i picked up the UHF hand piece and the questions started.i kept with Mick till Maruan but it was hard yakka he would get away from me up the hills and was a good spotta as i would really let her roll off the Mundoonan range and all the others . it was at a point in the trucks life that Mick was getting concerned about fuel cosumption and he had removed the sunvisor off the roof to aid in the aerodynamics.we pulled off to the left once we crossed the barbeque plate, had a quick chat said our goodbye,s and away we went. up untill that night i thought seattle star was only a show tuck. but after that night i realised it was a working truck in show condition....
