If you want to keep it original then you got to find another Bedford donk,
If you cant find one and just want to get it back on the road, get the guts out of a Ford or Holden ute. A lot of work getting engine mounts, radiator hoses, tailshaft, gear lever etc to line up however. Diesel is only worth it if you are doing big miles and LPG will never look original.
Then you going to have to get an engineer to certify it all.

I'm not sure how original you want to make it look under the bonnet, but what about a Holden grey motor which may appear to have a similar appearance and at least parts are available and it should be fairly economical.

A post from Barry who is logged in but still can't see the reply button:

Grey holden motor would be a good swap and you may even be lucky with the flywheel housing. There is of course another quality GM product you can use if you want to cruise in style. I can fix you up with a 3-53 detroit ! Barry

A BMC diesel like out of a pommy taxi would do the trick Dave.

GM Diesels - Converting diesel into noise since 1938.

Pommy engines sort of narrows your choice Dave, two suggestions are a P6 / R6 Perkins or a Rolls Royce Merlin. Vicroads might prefer the Perkins.

Why not borrow that motor off the back of Warwick Bryce's Foden. That would get the Bedford moving!

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!
