1942 Chevrolet ambulance. The grey colour with white guards was the standard colour scheme for Melbourne ambulances until the mid 1960's. The car now forms part of the collection of the Ambulance Historical Society of Victoria. Taken at the society's museum in Thomastown.

Phil,
The Ambulance Historical Society of Victoria has a museum at 3 Merchant Ave Thomastown. They are basically only open by appointment and they are actively seeking historic vehicles to restore. They are also to be allocated one of each type of "Modern" vehicle as they are being phased out of operation. There website is www.paramedic-community.com/ahsv/
Queensland Ambulance also has two museums located in old ambulance station buildings in Wynnum and Charters Towers. Both are open by appointment. www.ambulance.qld.gov.au/about/history_and_heritage.asp
NSW Ambulance have had some historic vehicles for many years however they have never established a museum to display them. Over the years their cars have been spread out across ambulance stations around the state, wherever there was room to store them. They have recently agreed to loan their vehicles to the Temora Rural Museum where they will be maintained and displayed. Some of the cars are to be restored by the museum on behalf of ASNSW. www.temora.com.au/pages/temora-rural-mus...anagement-committee/
There are also quite a few privately owned historic ambulances, such as the FJ at Temora, a couple of EH/EJ Holdens, the Terraplane and the FC ex Boonah QATB. These are owned by members of the respective model car clubs.
I have a 1962 Valiant (S Series) ambulance that I am planning on restoring at some time.
