I some times wondered what happened to the "White Whale" as it was called at SES after wallowing through the mud in the 1983 floods at Carnarvon Gorge. It drove around stuck Toyotas.
Originally purchased by the Q.A.T.B. Springsure committee I believe in 1959 and converted into an ambulance, not sure who by. The original colour was ambulance cream.
It was replaced in May 1980 by an F100 4 x 4. It was then sold to Bauhinia Shire Council for use by State Emergency Service. It could only be described as a low mileage vehicle with about 15000 miles on the clock from memory.
For use by SES it was repainted white and a towbar and substantial bull bar were fitted.
The Springsure Group used it for a number of years before it was replaced by a Toyota troop carrier. It was then moved to Rolleston Group before it was replaced there by a Nissan Patrol wagon.
It was interesting to drive and used to go pretty well.
