Footscray (Melbourne, Vic.), Olympic Doughnuts. This has been a Footscray institution for 40 years, and has been the subject of a documentary. It was alongside the station (underneath the footbridge), and a ritual for alighting passengers was buying a bag of doughnuts. For RRL, shops on that side were demolished, but the caravan was allowed to stay, and was relocated around the worksite as required. The operation then shifted into a shop. Ill health of the proprietor has resulted in temporary closure becoming permanent.
There was a lot of interest in this snippet in my railway groups: many remembered visiting Footscray just to buy the doughnuts. I have researched the full set of three articles and three videos there, but have only the links here, and a better photo. The links include photos of the people and the doughnuts. They sound to be like the American doughnuts of my South Melbourne boyhood, subject of an earlier thread.

The 76-year-old has been tempting locals and visitors alike with the delicious scent of his freshly made hot jam doughnuts at Footscray station since 1979.
The fate of his Olympic Doughnuts store came under threat last year when the station underwent a major redevelopment and he was forced to move the rusty and graffiti-laden caravan he had operated from under the pedestrian footbridge for 30 years.
Not wanting to let his loyal customers down, Mr Tsiligiris constantly moved the van around the workers as the construction site expanded.
Mr Tsiligiris, who makes 10 buckets of dough at his Richmond home each evening, has now ditched the caravan and moved into a new shopfront in Irving St.

2.2.17 update. A happy ending for doughnut lovers, although this is now in a shop, not a van.
Olympic Doughnuts tradition to continue in Footscray, new leaseholder says.

FOOTSCRAY foodies doughnut need to despair, with a new leaseholder planning to fill the hole left by the famed Olympic Doughnuts.
The owner of Yarraville cafe Dad and Dave’s plans to continue selling doughnuts and coffee at the site of the famous shop.
Russell Karim said he was a fan of the original shop and knew former owner Nick Tsigilaris from his university days.
“I used to grab his doughnuts on the way to uni and chat to him on my way,” Mr Karim said.
The cafe owner said he wanted to honour some of Mr Tsigilaris’ traditions while having their own style.
“We want to keep it as simple as Nick did, there will just be coffee and hot doughnuts,” Mr Karim said.
He also said they would be hiring former Olympic Doughnut staff and hoped people would enjoy the new shop as much as the previous one.
The family of Mr Tsigilaris said they wished the new leaseholder well but denied rumours that the doughnut recipe had been sold on.
The new doughnut shop is expected to open in a few weeks but a name had yet to be decided.

Melbourne Express: Friday, February 10, 2017 .
This one was set up outside the Age building (Melbourne, Vic.) on Thurs.9.2.17. It was popular with bespectacled staff.

It may be an elaborate tent, and not a van or trailer. Even so, it would require trucking to be position.
