I had never heard of it until Jeff sent this photo. These things exist in lots of world cities.

Telford St at Scott St: Newcastle's 'famous' tram crossing the site of a
former T junction, with curves each way, with Great Northern Hotel as a
backdrop and the station (former terminus of Great Northern Railway) behind
the photographer. Wed.23.10.13. (Jeff Bounds)

Surprisingly nearly every capital in OZ has run Trambuses at one time or other, you see many trends starting in one city and doing the rounds to the next place.
Here is an older link

regarding the Katoomba Trambuses.

The 2 I have worked with, XBrisbane ones on IBC Brissy Chassis had bodies constructed by Bris City Council Toowong Bus Workshops which had replaced the Tramway Workshops at Milton.
I have a number of photos and plans relating to their construction around the late 80's.

Hamilton (Newcastle, NSW): The current bus depot. Wed.24.7.13. (Jeff Bounds)The identifiable buses are: 3366 [possibly 3365], 3559 [for once not
matching its numberplate, MO5372] and _551 [almost certainly four digits].

Roderick

3559 (fleet) does not match the rego plates 5372 as it was one of a handful acquired during a take over of North and Western bus lines in 2000, Those vehicles retained original registration but were allocated fleet numbers in line with the government standard at the time.
In your previously posted photo, the other two vehicles parked directly behind 3559 are two more Volvo's that were part of said acquisition

The blue Renault is our group minibus, which we used to chase industrial steam-train operation.
The grey Hyundai is the transfer bus, run by the excellent and good-value and convenient Hotel Grand, Sarajevo. It wasn't a courtesy bus: there was a fee for transfers (mainly to the airport). I left with two friends who were heading to the airport, and was dropped off at the station: I could see the station from my room, and had walked several times, but not with my heavy suitcase on departure day.
I can't recognise the logos on either vehicle.

top one is Renault and the bottom one looks like it may be Hyundai. It won't let me enlarge them
