Buying a new body truck, but which one?

Seems a decision has been made to buy a new body truck for cattle carting and I have to look at what is available but I have no idea on what models are good or bad or whatever.. Out current 8 tonner 1985 UD has served us well, but is a snail and is just starting to have little problem after problem after problem.. it only has 400 000km's..

So looking for a replacement, I guess in the 15 000kg gvm range... I see they have 9 speed syncromesh gearboxes these days... How do they work?

Looked at Hino... I see they have EGR emission controls... Looked at UD, I see they use that adblue stuff...

Can I get one with no computer mumbo jumbo so it will last thirty years?

Any ideas on what brands to stay away from... I saw a newish Isuzu and it was very very low to the ground and would bottom out in the middle, when used in our off road needs..

Hey RC, didn't we do this exercise about a year ago?
If not, it was almost the same question from a fella near Muswellbrook..
Can't remember the outcome but I thought Ol matey bought a Volvo?

Anyway, in case this is a whole lot different now as was then, you really will be deciding with your wallet mate.
Pay more=get quality
Pay pittance = get crap.

Don't discount a quality ex-council jigger neither, they have done bugger all for 4 or 5 years and would be affordable.
Good luck

I just thought some might know something and say stay for example away from Hino, or stay away from Volvo or something like that...

I'm assuming you're Buying secondhand,
You won't too far wrong with either an Isuzu or Hino...IMHO
There's a good reason they're the 2 biggest sellers in the class.
I'd personally stay away from any of the Europeans. But that's just Me..

Could be new, but I am hesitant to buy a new one.... We paid $20 000 for our current one about 17 years ago and it has served us this long with minimal expenses...

A new one is around $160 000.. Seems an awful lot of money to me, when a good pre computer second hand one might do us well for many years...

I guess another consideration is how easy is it to get around the computer controlled emissions control.... Not that I would do it..

Doing research on it if I could find a new ~2005 model truck it would be the way to go...

Doing some more research and looking seems like all the modern ones are not suitable for our application....

Run over anything bigger then a rabbit and you risk ripping the plastic crap they put on the front off...

Then the wheel bases are so long these days with so little overhang at the rear the first whoaboy you drive over will damage the fuel tank or the tool box...

How will they handle going through a flooding creek?

To be honest the modern ones are just utter rubbish, made for urban/highway use only when you get no further then 100km from a dealer...
