Spicer Syncro 7 drives more like a crashbox. Help!! was created by ashmenz0
Hi
I have a Spicer "Synchro 7" in our bus coupled through a 14inch Spicer clutch to the Perkins.
My issue is mainly with gear changes. It seems that if i use the clutch "properly" the gears are a real bugger to find. If I just lean on the clutch i seem to be able to find the gears better. When I say lean on it, I mean just pushing through the freeplay and hardly feeling the pressure.
Is this a problem with the clutch, the gearbox or both??
Thanks in advance
Ash

does it have a clutch brake, if so it would explain what is happening as they only work when adjusted right when the pedal is fully pushed or in the last little bit of travel

According to the book it has a Spicer solo adjustment free clutch. I believe this may have been replaced at some stage so I will need to check what it actually has now. Hopefully I will find something to identify what it is.

It might seem painfully obvious, but does the gearbox have oil in it and is it the right type?

Hi Dieseldog,
It does have oil in it, but I haven't changed it so I can't guarantee its the right stuff.
I will be doing a complete service/change all fluids so I have a start point.
Thanks
Ash

Hi Swishy
It has a cable from the front of the bus to the rear.
I haven't had the chance to check it over the whole length. I guess there are a number of areas over that length that could be an issue, starting at the stick.
My naivety just pointed me straight to the clutch.
Cheers
