Hello Lang
We are looking at purchasing a trailer however it will only be used for short distances where there is no other option. The problem is it simply can't work where you have overhead obstructions. Currently we are transporting 63 metre Blades from Newcastle to Glen Innes and in order to do so have spent about $350.00.00 on intersection upgrades in order to deliver the Blades. In the meantime we are also evaluating delivering 70 metre Blades.

I presume the operator on the back has a turntable to swing the blade as required around corners etc. They must be very light or they would tip the whole show if they swung out too far.

The system is very similar to a Crane there is a counterweight above the turntable opposite to the Blade and yes there is an operator to turn and lift the Blade.

We are looking at this method however there are a number of considerations that need to be addressed.
It only works where there are no overhead obstructions and it would not be economically viable over long distances due to the low travel speeds. The best example I can give is we have invested close to $500,000.00 in road modifications to deliver 63 metre Blades from Newcastle to Sapphire Windfarm near Glen Innes. Our Mercedes and Volvo prime movers towing quad axle Blade trailers with a tare weight including the truck of 35 tonnes complete 3 round trips each 1100 kms per week and staying within regulated driving times. And yes we do swap out prime movers but the very expensive Blade trailers don't stop other than scheduled servicing.

Mmmmm!
Sky Crane, biggest headache with these is the down wash from the rotors. Not fun being underneath hooking up loads.
Then there is the hourly rate.
In PNG Columbia's Chinooks ran around $20,000 per hour. Down wash on those were not as bad as the Sky Crane.
Cheers Steve
