maybe compression is down....and maybe the Jake brake is keeping valves open.

If it is an electronic M11, the check valve on the ecu cooler, which a mechanical engine doesn’t have, is known to play up. It is internal to one of the connecting elbows.
All good DD. It looks like the best and non cost saving way is to get the computer to find out.
My thoughts are, if it does not start easily in the mornings but starts ok the rest of the day it is possibly the slow leaking valve. Whether it is mechanical or electronic, once the engine is cranked enough it can start.
But then when have I ever been on the right track & got there. Just hope I can help.
