I record each day of the Dakar usually on SBS in the New Year. The bad side about it is that it only runs for 30 minutes and although Dee and I like an dwatch the lot the trucks only get around 2 minutes coverage each day. WE obvious love the Hinos when running but those Kammaz trucks are just amazing and to see these monsters ger air over bumps and dunes and then a roll over or two and dont forget about getting bogged to the diffs in sand with rooster tails flying up.
Last year I bought a Dakar sleeve patch online which is an embroided one and looks amazing. I must take a pic of it and post it here. I framed it and it sits on the TV cabinet.

In 1994 my wife and I looked very hard at entering the DAKAR (when it ran to Dakar) following our run in the Australian Safari.
The fact we would have had 2 children under 3 at the time of the event and a very close shave in the Safari forced a change of mind and retirement from the sport.
It is a blast getting air at stupid speeds in vehicles not designed to get off the ground.
In 1993 I ran a Porsche 911 in the Safari and the organisers were concerned their helicopter wouldn't be able to keep up with it in open country. Co-driver broke his arm whilst driving so that fixed that.

Dakar is bloody awesome eh... well worth watching, there are lots of cable type shows i beleive that show a hell of a lot more than just the commercial stuff. But all of it is good!
Zuffen now that your kids are grown up, have you considered the Sunraysia Safari? A terrific event. It was cancelled this yera obviously, but hopefully all systems go for next year. Super fast, super good...... Cmon!

Prodrive,
I got too old and too slow.
We only enter any event to win not to compete.
Sad but that's the way we roll.
