Why have road trains changed from straight drawbars to a longer curved drawbar? was created by Zuffen
I've noticed of late that road trains have changed from straight drawbars to a longer curved drawbar.
Does anybody know the reason for the change.
Obviously the new style is better, but why is it better?

I think it's only on side tippers, that have bodies shorter than the trailer. That enables the dolly to connect onto a turntable, like a B double. The turntable v pintle hook (Ringfeeder et al) offers greater stability and resistance to roll.

Does it have anything to do with an ADR and pedestrian safety?

Pedestrian safety, it’s a joke. I’ve lost count of the number of pedestrians that I’ve seen climbing over drawbars while the vehicle is stationary.

A ringfeeder type conection would offer no resistance to turnover as they have a horizontal swivel on the draw bar
A HD low loader type dolly mounter directle to a ball race turntable would help to resist flipn

I think you blokes are over thinking this
I reckon with new abilities run road trains everywhere this probably started as a b double and these dolley's are to allow for a load increase of 20 ton with a extra tri
Or maybe it makes things less likely to wanda going down the road as the pivot is in front of the axles, not hanging out back were it would tend to kick about a bit with driver normal correction as driver
Was a common issue on body truck road trains
Paul

I don't know why.... but I read the question as a bull bar and not a draw bar. Go figure???
