Think the name came from here, but, it's a long way from the Shell roadhouse at Mickleham on the freeway northbound.

Without being a smart ar***se Greenvale is actually not a catchment reservoir in such as it is a storage or was back in the seventies being feed by other reservoirs Just a bit of trivia

Thanks Greenie, it is a long way from the roadhouse and no obvious connection. "Bunkers" also referred to fuel storage dumps, maybe one of the old Hume highway runners might shed some light on it.

Could be that, but it's only about 30 kays from the centre of town.

If south bound and you lived in the big smoke, you could see and smell home, for those that lived further north, then they only have that far to go, so who's going to take a kip at that place, in that situation.

North bound, it was a perfect spot to stop and check the ropes/chains/tarp or whatever, but at only 30 kays away, who's going to want to take a kip, the beans wouldn't have even kicked in yet.
If the book says stop, so be it, but I would look for a place, a little less likely than to have every Tom, Dick and Harry stopping to check his gear, before he does a bolt for the north.

Must be a reason for the name, so what is it, you have me intrigued.

Greenie, the suburb Camp Hill in Brisbane, is where the drovers and cockies used to camp the night before sale day, so I'm told. Maybe Bunk Hill predates motorized transport? 30 miles to go the next day.

Hi Cam, doubt that could be the answer, as it's on top of a hill way out of town, if you had stock, then you would camp down by the river/creek, they need water after travelling.

The idea about towns being a days march away, is true, but 30 clicks, sure aint no 30 miles.

Camp Hill in Brisbane is named as you suggested, it's right along side the cattle yards, so there was a reason to camp there.

There are two small towns there, Donnybrook and Kalkallo, each with a pub but so close together it is virtually one place seehttp://maps.google.com.au/maps?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hl=en&tab=wl
and the Roadhouse is where the ATM is marked on the map. If you were naming it after the location, as is normally the case, it would be the Donnybrook roadhouse.
