Thanks Hayseed, I read that as your actual GVM ( or GCM if towing a trailer) at the time. Not what the truck is plated at.

wotcha don't relize th@ the road system including signs n lanes etc iz designed for cars n let trucks make do with the inadequate system
where by they should design roads for trucks n let cars use m
With signs it iz all up2 interpretation of the sign
coz if the sign can B intepruted any other way u have a very good chance when facin the beak in court @ your xpense
Drive n nowadays iz all 2 do with your familiarity of where U B drive n
With us we have no set transport requirements n dont cart from ...or.... to the same place
so if on our journey ifn we end up on a rd with a load limit it is disregarded (unless it has a restricted load limit bridge)
coz in my defence if the load limit aint marked in the Melway .... stiff cheddar n so B it
the authorities must think we are joy riders n like burn n fuel @ gr8 expense
the rd system is badly designed
Traffic is like water n finds its own level in peak hour suburban traffic
also arounf the inner suburbs of Melb they have a restriction around beach rd in certain days/hours
it sez 4.5 tonne but can B misred az 45 tonne coz of the minute decimal point

G'Day all,

Here I am again talking about weight !
But also about signs which I have had 16 years experience.

The NSW manual says it all to me :-
You must not use any road with a load limit sign if the total weight of your vehicle is the same as, or heavier
than, the weight shown on the sign
.

In the case of the sign in question:-

It would not appear to meet accepted world standards, in that it has No Logos, Black text only, and does not clarify 'actual' or 'permissible' weight.

I would say that it is not legal and acts purely as an unofficial request by someone who does not know any better, and as such any charges made should get thrown out in court. We have similar signs over here too, and even those impersonating POLICE signs, saying 'No Parking POLITE Notice'. These signs are pathetic and should be outlawed and removed and the producers of them charged.

This sign says 'ignore me because I am not official'

The facts according to this amateur sign, would appear to be that you could drive anything up to 5999kg all up actual weight including driver and fuel, even if the GVM is 16000kg ?

Only an amateur judge would allow charges to stand against anybody accused of infringing the sign.

That's my opinion, and if I lived around that area , it might disappear very early one morning !

Cheers
RS :)

Swishy,
That post said it all,may be i am a stropy old sod out of 6 speeding fines in last 15 years i took 4 to court and argued the toss with 2 on same sheet lasting 2 hours ,the beak turfed all 4 out on tecknicalitys and confusion over signs.
My reasons if they want my money then they can work for it but all ways look at maximum fine and have money to pay that if you lose ,if moor people clogged up the courts may be the goverment would sort the signs out

Thats the way I would read that sign Roland and they would have to weigh you to prove a case. I am guilty of paying a fine that I knew were nonsense (because it was the cheapest option) and full marks to Scrapman for fighting these.
I think if a council is going to close a road to trucks they need to provide a place to turn around and an alternative route to use. To easy for the NIMBY folk just to close a road sending vehicles on a long detour past someone elses house.
I used to do a lot of deliveries to inner city councils and homeowners and they always told us to ignore load and access restrictions. Trouble is you dont know if it is a NIMBY sign or there is an a genuine reason eg a weak bridge down there.

They seem good at putting signs up, without any thought to the ones that are already there.
