Wooden caravans

I posted several photos of caravans at a Clunes HCVC rally, to the rally thread. I thought that I had posted more, but that was to another road-vehicle group.

Recently, a photo appeared in passing in a photo of a 1950s truck which a member was buying, but I'll have to find the link.

For starters,
Go to www.hcvc.com.au/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1355687305/86#86
It has a mix of medium size full-height vans, and also teardrops. I'll copy the links to here eventually.

I'll start with one from my 2012 Sandown set, now with a second angle of the same van, and add an interesting one from a 131121Th Melbourne Herald Sun item on internet helping small businesses.

My great aunt went into bussiness building caravans in melbourne some time between the wars. Unfortunately I don't have any photos but Dad told me they once towed one to Sydney behind thier Rugby car and attracted a lot of interest when they stopped to change a tyre as not many people had seen a caravan.

I found the earlier post, in a thread 'Old Chev truck'.
Here it is, requoted. How does one maintain an old wooden caravan without destroying what is being maintained?

I am too impatient to wait to morning: I am always surprised and pleased when my subtopic threads bring up such great responses.
To newcomer Colin, well done, and a great addition. Location?
To old-hand 'Swishy': your research and discoveries add to any thread.
I grew up in a caravanning family, and saw a lot of my own state (Victoria). I learned to drive by backing our caravan into the allocated spot (15-16 yo), and not just the steering, but clutch control while leaning out of the door.
I do have more for this thread, but I do ration, and I am on a countdown to another major overseas tour.

G'day Swishy, If I recall correctly there was a caravan museum in that area, don't know if it is still going or not.

Here is a modern teardrop, displayed at the Mar.13 Clunes rally. In an era of low-powered cars, the design was quite efficient: the body fitted between the wheels of a standard trailer chassis; the kitchen hatch provided some shelter when cooking roadside; the maximum headroom was at shoulder position, with clothing lockers in the front bulge, and a footwell below the kitchen deck. For extended stays, most users had a standalone tent to erect at the rear to cover the cooking area, and provide space for a table and chairs.
