Paul: Ouch! This, of course is just sieved sump oil. It cost me some time and the shirt I was wearing. (since I didn't initially even know if the pump would work).

Does anyone here remember how these work? Do I just leave the pump engaged and it will lift until it goes into bypass? Does it just drop when I disengage the pump? Admittedly, it will be a while before I get another hose made.

Southbound: I do aim to please! We all love pics. Also, that old turntable gets plenty of use some nights. Lucky I have a couple of acres :)

Jarrod.

3PL should lift until it reaches pre determined height set by the lever and then hold that position, when the linkage creeps down it should automatically correct back to it's pre set position
If the pump is disengaged it slowly droop until it either runs out of travel or the implement hits the ground
This is the standard way 3PL has worked on almost all tractors since the 60's

Hi Jarrod
If your farmall has a belly pump the pump runs whenever the clutch is engaged
the control lever has three positions back for up,forward for down and hold in the
high diddle diddle
All they have is the pump and a control valve which works the ram mounted
on the inside of the top of the diff housing
If you busted a hose with out the linkage lifting the piston could be stuck
The arms will lift manually by hand but the piston is not connected to the conrod
it only pushes against
No such flash depth control on these old girls

Paul: mine's a bit older, early 50's. My Chinese tractor is like that.

Bluey: Yep, belly pump. The middle position must be what the broken spring in the top guide was for.

Cheers both of you.

Jarrod.

Jarrod the control rod should have a little stop at the middle position that you
lift over the guide to push foward for down
Bluey

The broken spring is to stop it bouncing over and dropping at an inopportune
moment like when your sooting down the road with something hanging on the
linkage that will make a mess of the road bring the tractor to a screaming halt
and launch you over through the steering wheel NOT PRETTY

Bluey: from memory, there is a stop on the rod. That's one of the myriad small parts to go back on.

PDU: that car needs all the help it can get!
