I have been using that "doing word" an awful lot but then I always do anyway, so nothing has changed.
So, just for everyone's amusement I got to have a short play with it today.
Fitted the new needle and seat using the thin washer. Then as described in the manual remove the main jet and with the top half of the carby bolted to the manifold and connected to the fuel supply and throttle linkage you can then swing the bowl out towards you and then turn on the fuel and watch where the fuel level comes up to. Right on spec, it stopped about 2-3mm from the top of the jet holder. Beauty one mate, I'm winning and all that stuff. Screwed the bowl back on and turn the fuel on and I waited and all seemed good, no fuel dripping out. Tried a start up and no go. then while switching off the ignition fuel starts dripping out. "LOTS OF DOING WORDS RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT"
Removed the bowl and fitted the thicker washer but still dripped. Then I noticed the float has a small dent in the top and I am now thinking that this might be the cause of it not shutting off properly all the time.
So I am chasing a new float for the Solex 30-FV if anyone has one, it should have 26 gm (26 grams) stamped on top. You can just see the small dent on the top and I dont want to be the one to try and take the top off the float, knock the dent out and try and put it back together. I just know what will happen.

Are you sure the bowl doesnt have a leak ???
I cant see the dent is going to make a hell of a difference once it's adjusted

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

Maybe try soldering something to the bowl and then use a mini slide hammer to pull out the dent???

. Cobba ...
I know this has nothing to do with a fuel leak, but can explain why an engine will start then as it runs for a while
it starts to run like a hairy goat and then stops. …..is the tank vented to the atmosphere (air hole in cap or whatever)
If air cannot get in , fuel will not want to run out. …… Just a thought...………..
Shake the float, if nothing inside, there is no leak in the float ……. What dint are you talking about ??????
the small dint on the outer edge (no problems) or the impression left by the needle ( maybe could cause the needle
to cock off centre on the seat )

I think the dent under the word Top is significant.
In your situation I would replace the float.
I can see the float slowly rotating until the needle no longer shuts off.
Once in that location it is held by the bottom of the needle and won't rotate to function.

It will make a difference to the fuel level in the bowl ie the float will rise higher before it shuts the fuel off. As Paul says that level will have to be adjusted by needle seat shimming or bending the float arm.
I can't see from the drawing behind in your photo but is the dent caused by over enthusiast banging on a tickler rod?
Those soft copper floats bend very easily. I think you could probably work out a system to grab the raised ring and pull it out. If you annealed the top this would make it pretty easy but if there is any soldered joint in the float that is not an option. Southbound is on the money I think.

how silly would it be to boil the float, if it has got any air in it maybe the expansion of that air might just lift the dent up.....

Right O. I see what you are on about now...………..
the whole top inner area is depressed ……..
I thought that was the way it was made , and you were referring to the other small dints...……..
Yes ,that will alter the fluid height,...…………….
Sarge………. that would be worth a go, nothing ventured , nothing gained...…...

Done a quick google and found this
According to fleabay site this suits a Jag, Dasiybrown and a whole heap of other things
So does it look the same as yours, I have only noticed the one photo so far
Heres the link
And yes I can see it doesn't have as big a dent on top but we dont know if its meant to have a dent or not and are only guessing at this stage

Good luck
