This bloke is advertising to find out what he has.

MF585 Header.  I can only find they first came out with a Dodge flat 6 then progressed to Perkins.  What is this?

That looks very BMCish - Austin or Morris

Yes, i agree, it looks very Austin to me.  I have an idea the earlier 726/780 used Austin petrol engines.............???

Via google, i just found reference to the early 585 headers using a 50hp Austin engine, then later changing to a Chrysler engine of 60hp.

Lang I will go for Austin four litre, used from about 1948 until, with upgrades, to the 1970's.  It was used in Morris Commercials after the forced merger, replacing the Morris four litre and also, of course, on BMC, BLMC, Leyland and whatever other brands the conglomerate used.

I think the pictures you show are those from an engine on a header for sale on Gumtree or eBay, or somewhere I have seen recently.

I would give it a home as a spare, if it was a lot closer to me.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I’d say definitely Austin didn’t know that the 585’s used them but the 726/780’s did

I'd suggest that it's been retro fitted?

Be it firearms or V8 engines, the question is not "why should you have them?"
, but "who are you to demand that I justify them?"

John.K. I've got one in my 1960 long-bonnetted MORRIS truck  It was standard equipment.  See my earlier reply.  It would also fit my 1952 MORRIS Fire Engine but that has the 6 cylinder four Litre Morris engine.
