CJD 895 + Velvet drive was created by daffid
hi, can anyone tell me what is involved in removing the velvet drive from a CJD 895 1975? I have watched strip down and rebuild youtube videos, but can't find removal from the tractor.

yes thankyou, I have read and reread them they have helped me to gather the info that I need, to give me the courage to attempt it myself. but I can't find any info on removing velvet drive from CJD 895, if it is splitting the chassis, without any knowledge, that sounds beyond me (I am 79)

Not familiar with the Chamberlain industrial at all but in general to get at a tractor transmission you split it in half. The professionals will have a little railway track with jacks running on trollies but you can improvise with decent size trolley jack(s) on a flat concrete floor. Undo all the flange bolts at back of engine, wedge the front axle beam so it doesn't rock and roll one end apart from the other. If the engine is sitting on chassis rails the procedure will be a little different.

If you decide to have a go at it yourself as suggested a good sized trolley jack that has been strapped to that end of the tractor and chock the front axle to not pivot. Back end can be set up on heavy jack stands then slowly price apart. The use of a pair of ratchet straps works well to pull them back together and allows you to pull one side more than the other is misaligned. The you have to do the repair on the drive which I have no idea about doing.

I am not familiar with the CJD 895 but I am familiar with the Chamberlain 6G & 9G.However Chamberlains are different to most tractors in that they have a chassis to which the motor and gearbox are mounted then a prop shaft to the 3 speed range box. I think your gearbox is mounted via the bellhousing to the rear of the motor, you should be able to see it under the battery box. I have a wreck of a later model here with I believe a velvet drive. I will have a look at it tomorrow and take some photos for you

There's no splitting with a Chamberlain, in a normal agricultural tractor the main transmission comes out with the motor and range change is attached to the back end
I would imagine this based on a similar principal, simple and safe compared to most tractors

It is connected to the back of the motor. On my model which has a John Deere motor, I can see the gear box if I remove the panel under the gauges
