You really can say that Bluey. Have a choice of supplier for the new / rewound coil and the maggyman in S.A. is a mile in front price wise and I know his coils are bloody brilliant so will pay up tomorrow and watch the post.

New coil in place along with the film capacitor and it's alive again even better than before.

Well this is what the SR1 maggy was off. My first home built tractor that actually does drive. The engine is a 2hp Buzacott hit n miss engine on a Cox Stockman frame. Flat belt from the flywheel down to the lay shaft that runs underneath the floor then belt back to the original Cox friction drive. Home made muffler to make it quieter and the brass knobs grease the lay shaft. At some stage I was having trouble sorting out a problem hence the "Problems in Progress" message

The old engine maggies from the swaps for $1 and $2 are nowdays worth hundreds -sometimes- and anything off a hit and miss engine is gold.

A working magneto will start from around $350.00 and skyrocket with no guarantee that it will last. These Lucas ones I have here nick named "Prince of Darkness" as they have been labelled unreliable are easily found and bought. That Buzacott should have a BTH maggy on it as going by the spec sheet on manufacturing day. Yes mine failed but it was made in 1958 going by the tag on the side so I forgive it for failing to sparkle its best. As you say some Maggy's going through the roof depending on how rare they are. Some rare ones will fall apart in your hand as the pot metal they were made of have gone crumbly.
No deck going back on as some nutter put a lay shaft in the way but the height adjusting handle is still in place but I do have plans for that in the future. I could always attach a ground driven mower behind it, anything from one of those bastards you pushed back n forth to a proper one.
