I will leave a plot to slash n show how it goes. Last time I ran it the grass just fell over n hid the bade but kept going. They are tough bastards to steer even with one wheel drive n 2 wheels are harder.
Thanks for the kind offer of a cutter bar n parts but distance is a bit of an issue.
Oliver1952 has kindly offered a tyne which is the most important part.
Picked up a load of sand n gravel, bags of cement so now to finish boarding up ready to drag out the mixer n get into it.

At last I'm back to the scythe. Just waiting for the garden shed to arrive but the 1500kgs have been mixed n laid by my little cement mixer.
so today I've stripped the ratchet drives off the wheels n decreased them now. New inner tubes arrived to Ho inside the better tyres plus 2 decals appropriate for the scythe have also arrived.

Due to light rain no spraying today so attacked the engine to try n date this toy. Usually date codes are on the flywheel but this 25C engine did not. Discovered that it is 1949/50.
Engine number is 740 46895 with spec 184B which is most likely the spark limiter to 2400 rpm.

While waiting for the replacement panels for the garden shed I decided to paint the cutter bar n fuel tank. Some models did this from production n I like it so here it is. Also I'm still cleaning the engine up but noticed jaw marks from a lathe or milling machine. Never noticed this before on a Villiers.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Cobbadog,
I wonder if the jawmarks were made by a previous owner and not by the manufacturer?

That is possible Morris as the crankcase has been split apart n silicone used on assembly.
In cleaning up more parts for the scythe I actually found a date, not on the flywheel but the cooling fins that bolt to the flywheel. Seems 11 / 51 is the date. Also in cleaning up the wheels you can see the remainder of the yellow paint used to highlight the lettering on the wheels.

With chuck marks like that, has it spun a bearing in the past and had the surfaces cleaned up, maybe has oversized bearing or bush fitted

Chuck marks are from Coventry chuck on a capstan or turret lathe .....very typical of UK manufacture in the 50s and 60s.......things you d think would be milled are turned on a turret lathe.
