The thread on the Allen Oxford Scythe brought back memories from one we had on the farm when I was a kid and I'm enjoying watching the resto thanks Cobba.
After the AOS we had a Mobilco slasher and it was a little safer for us kids to 'mow the lawn' with. As I have some part time work slashing I bought a Mobilco Heavy Cut to slash the bush part of the property and it really is a good thing. I bought it cheap with a non running Kohler engine and fitted it with an OHV Briggs and Stratton (made by Daihatsu) engine that was a fire fighting pump and was discarded on hard rubbish and had done no work.

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

    gr8 pic SthBound
we had an ol Mobilco slasher
So I pinched the idea of the twisted belt
    running Horizontal to vertical
and helpd Jnr to make a motorized bike for a school project
using a Victa mower engine with a vertical shaft with a small pulley
then giving the V belt a twist (like the Mobilco)
drving im between 2 bike wheels
only problem was driving along in wet grass as the belt did slip a weee bit

a pic of the twisted bely arrangement (if it works)
    pirated from nuther site

I hope the Victa was a two stroke Swishy!
The later model Heavy Cut had a vertical shaft engine (no twist in the belt) and a proper ride on gearbox that had a reverse gear, although I prefer the early machines as they are lighter and easier to manhandle.
Mobilco made a wide range of machinery including chainsaws, drag saws and grain augers. No doubt someone on this fine forum has some Mobilco gear on their farm.

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

The Oxford Scythe is on hold while I do the garden shed project. Mixed almost 1500kg to make the cement yesterday now propping to make the ramp.

The Victa in a bike project Dad nni did something similar using a Cyclopes pump up scooter. Engine sat vertical n ran chain to a fixed wheel hub from a push bike which lined the chain to a sprocket on the engine. The hub had gears of different sizes but transferred the drive to the opposite side to back wheel.

    Cheers Cobba & Cobbarette
