It is such a relief to know there are others out there that follow the same approach Paul, I've been there and done much the same several times over.
PS If you paint it the finish product will possibly look as nice as cobbadog's or Colin HD's even if the upgrades aren't all bolt on replaceables . . .

Another day full of activity with very little to show
However the frame is fully weld on all sides
I forgot to weld tabs to it bolt it to the tray say the frame did another circle before I was done
All this took to about 1 o'clock this afternoon
I then carried said frame around to tge Kia Ceres and bolted the tanks and it was like someone had custom made the fram as the bolts just slotted in

After lunch I bolted the frame to the tray and all was secured
It was lucky for me someone had the foresight to weld tabs in the correct spot for this
So the boom I reckon had to be lowered a bit as there's sort of a correct height for spraying pasture and stuff like that
The sprays need to overlap around 25 - 30%
To high and there's to much over lap and to low theres not enough
So I made some box sections up out of some off cuts I have had for decades to drop the boom 300 mm or 12" in the old money

By this stage it was 7 o'clock this evening and I called it quits for today
Also ordered a new starter for the backhoe as I have a new to me Neuss motor turning up in the next week or so, I have a real soft spot these and 6354 Perkins, sorry Mrs Mack
Anyway on another topic there was talk about welding
I didn't clean up one area to be welded with a grinder, except the gal steel
Remember I'm just a dumb ass so treat me gently
First thing I did was a fresh lense in the mask, then made sure I was in the shade
A bit of gas, amps full noise, volts full noise and cable speed back a bit from flat out
The gal stuff I stick welded after trying to MIG it and ground clean, stick welding is a no nonsense type of welding, really only suited to heavy gauge steel etc and crappy gal

Well done Paul! This has been a very interesting and very practical build to follow. I have always thought that style of vehicle would be ideal for spraying firebreaks and fencelines, as it would be much more nimble in and around corners than the standard old 1985 Hilux i currently use, with it's "40 acre" turning circle................
Our yard maintenance also requires a LOT of "spot spraying" style work with a hand held lance, and i can't recommend a Quik Corp Retraspray 100m radio controlled hose reel, highly enough. It's magic, especially if working on your own. 100m of free-wheeling hose on demand, that will fully rewind on its own at the press of a remote hand held button, without ever twisting or kinking, it really is beyond belief.
I am no expert, but i have always believed boom height for correct overlap of spray pattern in broadacre work should be 500mm/20" off bare ground, and increased accordingly to suit any bulk of growth that you are spraying. I well remember the winching up and lock-bolting of our earlier style booms, as the season progressed, until finger tip hydraulic lift (and fold) became the norm.
Brett.

Well I got a tad busy for most of the week so not a lot achieved, but the summer weeds will still be growing
So my new backhoe starter turned up and got fitted, starts a whole pot better, must of been spinning a bit to slowly before
The new to Neuss motor arrived and was unloaded
I made up a bracket and mounted the valves to turn different parts of the sprayer on and off
Mounted up the hose reel and gun etc
Thrn plumbed it all up and standing there admiring my brilliance I thought what could possibly go wrong ?
So chucked some water in it (I had already removed all the boom jets and filters)
Also changed a couple of rubber diaphragms
Then tried to start the Chonda, no luck at all, thing wouldn't even attempt to fire
After pulling the plug and draining fuel from the bowl I remembered it had a switch
Wouldn't you know it, put the plug in, fill with fuel and this time with the switch on it fired in about half a pull on the cord
So got the Chonda purring away but no pumping
Was about to pull the pump apart as it's new to me and thought "hang on a minute Pauly boy, don't wanna jump the gun here, best investigate this"
Found the suction tube in the tank had dropped off

Been pretty confident about just how good this was gunna be I turned the valve on to the hand gun and be blowed, she squirted like no tomorrow
but suddenly it stopped and the pump got noisy
I pondered and looked and pondered and fiddled and eventually discovered that my plumbing has a issue
I plumbed this up to suck from the tank behind the cab and then what ever isn't sprayed onto the paddock goes into the second tank and this the gravity feeds back into the front tank
The pumps is a positive displacement pump so the liquid has to go somewhere and recycles back into the tank and this agitates the mix
This sprayer actually works this way and is plumbed correctly
However the hose between the tanks is no where near big enough at 3/4" and the back tank fills up before it can supply the front tank
So a much much bigger hose is to be fitted, about 2" I'm thinking
So I then put more water in the front tank and get the sprayer going
And all is fantastic
I do notice that the regulator isnt working properly, if at all
I discover that the Chonda is spinning way to fast and slow it down until it is just ticking over and this gives a pretty smooth controllable spray at 2 bar
A few water leaks to fix and work out some better speed control on the Chonda as I can hardly tell the difference by listening to it
So the list of things before spraying is
1) Bigger hose between tanks
2) see if I can get a tacho to work on single cylinder Chonda
3) six some leaks, all the valves are leaking out the rods to the handles
And do some spraying

What are you going to do with the nuess, I’ve got one in my 696, and there is a spare at my neighbour’s place that I’m attempting to wrangle from them

Gumpy I have no real plans, but have often thought about one in a Scout, I have no idea if it would fit or not, they are a pretty tall motor
Or in a 510a 4x4 ACCO done up along the lines of my Dads 410a from many years ago
Dunno if it will fit in there either, they only put them in the bigger ACCO's and the 6354 Perkins in the little ones
No real plans, just something that was a fuel guzzeling 345 into something I cam afford to drive
But a Scout would be first, apparently some of the last Scouts in Yanky land had Nissan diesels in them
They are a pretty heavy motor
