Ye gods! I counted 13 and probably missed a couple.
Thanks, Jarrod.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Most, if not all of them were in steam. (that is railway, and maybe all steam, talk for working) I wonder how (if) they had to co-ordinate the motive effort?
Maybe somebody here with more railway knowledge than me (my father spent some time working on the railway but apart from what I learned then, I know nothing about the subject)

Morris I would imagine that it would be the same as it would have been driving double headers back in the day don’t know what they used to get them pulling together but I would think it would be worked out on pressure settings throttle control
I often wondered how you would get two tractors in tandem both pulling their weight so to speak but an older bloke that used to work with a pair said one of the ways is to watch the temperature gauges and the exhaust pipes as well as wheel marks

Bluey, if you are right, they reverted to the native American system of communication......Smoke Signals. Just maybe. (I watched a lot of western movies in my childhood.)
