Looks simple, but a close look says a lot of work has gone into this.
You've packed a heap of interesting stuff into a small space.

When we get a visitor we both like to show tghe progress. To me it never started to come to life until the trees started going in. Just alone seemed to make it more real. Then ading people helped a bit but to me standing there looking at it is nothing compared to squatting down level with the layout. This gives a completely different perspective of whhats been built. Plus looking at it from different points of the layot. What may seem ordinary from one direction is very much different from another view.
So yes a few hours of thoughts best efforts and stretching the abilites is makingme feel a tiny bit proud. I have had some ideas thrown at me over time and always open for more.
Dee suggested writing a story about the layout. From the maker of this layout who I found out recently was Hansa of Melbourne and they named it the Snowy Mountains Express. For me I call it The Homestead.

Hopefully I am not pinching the thread but here is the plan for my latest project, a 2.4m x 1m (approx 8ft x 3ft3in) layout in N scale (9mm track notionally 1:160 scale). The baseboard is 12mm Ply with 30mm foamex XPS foam liquid nailed to it. It sits on a second hand kitchen table from a garage sale as it was cheaper (and easier) than making legs and framework. Next step is to order the track and controllers from the hobby shop when my wife is in a generous mood as the parts list is around $1000

N Scale is expensive, more so than HO like mine. I used Peko flexible track which is easy to use so you just bend it to what shape you want. Only thing to be aware of if using flex track is you need to trim the inside rail as it grows as you bend. I used a dremmel which made quick work of it. Strongly suggest that you fix the track to the board before cutting so nothing moves when connecting te next bit of track. I got caught out and with no spare lengtths I ended up briding the gap with solder.
Not sure if there is the same amount of accessories as HO but they do seem to be more detailed even being smaller, So look forward to seeing any progress on your project.
