I have a Harman crawler crane,A 1959 18D to be exact.I know others are collecting various size Harmans. There is virtually nothing online about Harmans, who were at Port Melbourne.A few pictures of steam and engine powered Harmans, but thats it.I want to find a history of this interesting Aussie company, with a lot more detail than the Vic Museums thumbnail.Regards John.

Hello all,Im in Brisbane, and have been a mechanic until retirement, machinist, and collector of stuff that was useful while I had a use for it,but is now what the city council call"accumulations of rusty machinery and scrap metal".I have a pretty good Harman crane/dragline( I would have if Id sprung $30 for the bucket),anyway its still going and is pretty useful.I once had an earlier Harman made in 1943 with a Cat D4 motor, which is now in a dozer.Anyhow,Ive become interested in the history of Harmans.I actually met the sales manager once,he was on holiday after Harmans was closed by Kockum. The references given i have already found, what I would like is something definitive and detailed on this interesting company. They once made a locomotive for the forestry commission,it was rubbish, but they appear to have got paid for it.The Vic museum has some material, but it requires in person research, which cant be done from here.Regards John.

Great collection of pics, some look like 40 years ago all with the same SAR in them.I remember when the army sold folding floats .A cocky bought one,but he didnt know you needed a winch on the truck, and he didnt know they had rigid beams.Should of heard him moaning. In the VR&WSC pics and VGR pics they always loaded from the side, and left the tracks sticking out.Same on rail wagons.Im also interested to know if any of Harmans bigger machines have survived.Like the M series 75tonners,and the supposed 120 ton mine machines. Thanks for the pics.Regards John.
