D5N 300 3rd Gear noise was created by HuckelBerri
Ive just purchased a D5N 300 series V8 4 speed But it has a tinny noise just in 3rd gear. Would that be the bearing on its way out?
Also what is the pcd/stud pattern on these as it doesn't have a spare. Does anyone know what other rims fit as I would like to get away from the split rims.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

It has a New Process gearbox.......possibly the front mainshaft/clutch gear roller bearing has failed......unfortunately this is loose rollers running in shaft and gear.....there is also a thrust roller washer that takes endload of the front gear bearing ,which is a tapered roller.......The whole assy must be adjusted for endfloat by shims under the rear bearing cap....fairly simple,if you have plenty of bits.......The rims are Budd 5stud type, and possibly 17",an odd size.....however Jap truck rims of the 80s are the same pattern, and 16",a better size...........Are the rims 5 stud or 8 small studs?

The box should fit the motor Ok,but you will need to adapt the tailshft......an easy project if you have a lathe and drill........Ive done a few over the years......even made up a B******d universal once, would have caused a bit of head scratching at the bearing shop.

How many Dodges are thrown in for the price of that manual......all you need is to have have a look for New Process gear boxes on the net.....must be plenty of info......Ive rebuilt the motors from boxes of bits...thats how the Fire Brigade sell them...Inter too...never had no manual cost that kind of money.....The only tricky part is the late ones with the ELB and the Carter high economy carb...all the adjustments on this carb are by bending links...The four speed is a NP 433/4/5.....the 5 sp is a NP 544/5/6.....Most of the parts in the 4 sp are the same as Inters, and Fords that used this box.

Why not take the top off the box in the truck and see whats wrong?alot simpler than swapping boxes.
