From the mailbox....

Hi All,
I have just brought a 1953 Bedford truck.
Chassis A3LC-31519
Engin A2A3-28681
Style A-OAB
Body 2904
Weight 5
16 CWT
Can anyone please give me some more information as to the tare or GVM of this truck. I am finding it hard to get info for roadworthy. Many thanks Glen Anderson

You may /will need a weighbridge ticket for the tare, the MRD will assess the gross by the tyre size on an old truck ....7.50x20s ,are 2 ton per tyre.

From the Broatch & Towsin book the A series (sometimes described as TA) A3LZ is rated for a 3 ton load, 214 petrol engine, 6.50-20 tyres. So add load to tare to get gvm.
The Z suffix means bare chassis, the L is long wheelbase

Didnt the old Bedfords have a GMH tag inside the cab stating the chassis weight.?......or maybe it was the gross weight for the warranty.

Gryphon noted 5 ton 16cwt from the tag, so it seems to all add up.
