getting the brakes working was created by beddyfarmtruck
got two weeks to get my bedford working for local car and truck show, need brakes to pass pink slip, not entirely sure where to start she's been sitting for a large number of years.
foot brake is rock hard but there is some movement in the handbrake and seems to work a bit when truck is towed, haven't found anything much on this partiular issue.

Sound like a fairly big job if its been sitting for a while.
Start with the basics is the pedal seized ?
Work your way forward from there but it may well be more than a seized pedal.

Hi,
It is quiet fixable but in 2 weeks?
The handbrake will work of sort even if the rest of the system is shot.
The seized pedal could be either on the pivot on the chassis but more likely seized in the master cylinder.
I have recently been fixing the brakes on the J1.Luckly the master cyl and 1 rear brake cylinder had already been resleeved in stainless. Sent the other 3 to Power Brakes in SA for resleeving as well.
Excellent job and quick turn around and were a bit over $100 for each.
Sourced the full rubber kits for the 4 cylinders and the master cyl kit including the leather servo washer from the UK for $100 landed here. Just have to put back together on the weekend.

Aiming to have it done for the local car show was my target setting a target keeps me motivated, however the further I progress I'm thinking it'll be closer to 6 months to a year with how many parts need replacing due to being broken or missing, generally I work with cars this is a huge learning curb for me

Have just finished doing my j2 brakes, the seals and hoses I got from Protex which may be an Ebay only company, not real sure. Their prices were fine and it's already here. The hoses, two front and one rear were about $150. The rear cylinder seal kits were $50 for the pair. I haven't needed to do up the master as I figured I had no leaks and a good pedal. Adjusment is easy just remove inspection rubber and rotate adjuster, watch for the shoe to move closer to the drum and I've been winding back half turn after it touches, seems to work ok. My park brake will work ok all the time as it's mechanically pulled on by the linkage, plenty of grease nipples and a quick adjustment, assuming yours will be the same. To find Protex I stumbled upon them on Ebay while searching for brake seals, It says they are in Melbourne. Postage was prompt. Hope this all helps your cause. Be wary of the spring for the park brake as it gave me a great shiner, something I haven't experienced for a long time! Whilst pulling it back onto the park rod the pliers I was holding flipped back whack! Youthful exuberance I guess.
