Hi all,
I am wanting to build a rat rod truck using a D5N or some other type of late 50s early 60s body. I see that Holden tonner chassis are a popular choice but they seem to site quite narrow, would not an F100 chassis and running gear be a better option or are the just too wide??? any advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers.

cant help except to say check what u r allowed to marry the cab too, many laws have changed regarding this depending on what state ur in, pay to check with your states motor vehicle modification dept, in sa you can do s.f.a except use the original chassis, then modify it via engineers specifications

Can't remember where but saw one for sale online recently with L300 front suspension to get the drop up front. It is a popular conversion for rodders. Depending on your engineer/skills/budget you could Z the rear to get it down low.

Have you actually looked at a Holden chassis?
They are a perimeter chassis, meaning the rails go out nearly the sills.

As the others said, best to check first too.

Be interested in whatever you do.

Thanks BigCam, The main reason (and I havent measured or specced any chassises V bodies yet) is on the tonner chassis the wheels look to sit too far under the guards which is not a look I particularly like. Even with wide wheels I want them to fill the guards out more. Any thoughts?

Morning Toggle I have a mid 1980's F100 short wheel base, rolling chassis here that is excess stock. I'm not sure where you are but if you want I can get some measurements off the chassis for you.

There is also a 1977 F100 SWB chassis here too.
If they're of any interest let me know.
Cheers Tim ;)

Quite a few AR/AL/AS Inters on Holden Chassis and there seems to be plenty of room for big tyres.
S'pose you'll have to get the measuring stick out.
Where abouts in Queensland are you?

thanks bigcam, im in caboolture. Its not so much the room for big tyres its that the ones i have seen have too much room left over. the tyres seem to sit too far under, i want mine to fill the guards out rather than be sitting under which look like they have a set of bike wheels underneath, if you get my drift. my old man was killed in a truck accident when I was 3 months old (1966) so I want to have something about his era, he had some inters and a commer (which is the one that he was killed in) and I want it to be like a shop truck and have his name and phone etc on the side....Fenwicks Transport Ph 270...how far we have come from the 3 didgit phone numbers...Lol.
